Jide drove through the back road. It was desolate, and he loved the desolation of the highway. His bright headlights cut through the darkness, illuminating the path ahead of him. His phone was in the cup holder, and it kept buzzing non stop. He was getting messages from Angela, his lover.

“Can you stop with the messages?” he muttered as another notification from Angela popped up on his screen.

He wanted an escape from everything going on with him. It seemed like too many things were going on at the same time. He made a huge withdrawal from the joint checking he shared with his wife Ola, and she was not going to let it slide easily. She kept asking questions about the money that had left their account, but he didn’t provide her with answers. The money in question was given to Angela, but he withdrew it as cash instead of doing bank transfers so that the money could not be traced. Angela ran an ecommerce boutique that required a lot of capital. He wanted to be her knight in a shining armor by giving her the money. Tade, his business partner had been harassing him with phone calls about an old contract and payment arrangement. All these people added to the many thoughts and voices…
