The drive to my mom’s house was filled with tension in my head. I fought a lot of my thoughts as I drove down on the freeway. It was traffic caused by rubber necking. A cop had stopped a car, and everybody slowed down to see what was going on. I hated when people did that instead of just minding their business. They felt the need to cause human traffic.
Idara called me in the morning. She sounded sad, like she had been crying.
“Hey, you never responded to my message, are you okay?” she asked.
“I am sorry, I was absorbed in my thoughts, still trying to process the shock”.

I responded.
“I understand, you were his favorite niece for whatever reason,” she said.
I flinched.
Did she know something? Or was she just jealous because she didn’t have the spotlight like she usually did?
“He loved all of us equally,” I responded quietly.
There was silence. I knew she was thinking of something smart to say, but I wasn’t in the mood. I was thinking of reaching out to Yemi to tell him about Uncle Ali. He knew him and liked him a lot, but he may feel I was…
