If only the earth could swallow

Idara’s eyes stayed on me.

My mom shot me an angry look.

Aunt Claudette, Idara’s mom, looked somewhat confused.

I lied to my mom and aunt within the last twenty four hours. Idara knew, but she hadn't told Phillip apparently. I wished I could disappear, or that the earth would open up and swallow me. It was one thing to tell a lie. It was another thing to have instant revelation.

“What game?” my mom asked.

“The Warriors game,” Phillip replied, his eyes still on me.

Everyone was waiting on a response. Aunt Claudette spoke first.

“But she just told me he went out of the country for work,” Aunt Claudette said sharply. She gave me a questioning look. Idara’s eyes stayed on me. Her stare had so many meanings. One of which was possibly ‘I can’t believe you lied,’ the other meaning could be ‘tell them the truth now’.

“Well, I am waiting for an explanation, she told me the same thing yesterday,”…
