MARRIED TO A DEAD MAN(4)

He kept giving me a reason to get upset.

We sat at the dinner table eating dinner. I made basmati rice and some mushroom gravy sauce. I decided not to eat meat for a month, once in a while it was good to make something different for a change.
Brian never complained about anything I made or if I wanted anything different. He always went along with the flow. Sometimes I liked it when he went along with the flow, and other times I didn’t because I expected him not to be as passive as he usually was.

Sometimes I wanted more action.

More fun.

Something spontaneous, but Brian was not such a person. His passive and nonchalant attitude was something I had to contend with for the rest of my life in the marriage.

These signs were there somewhat while we dated, but I was hoping that after marriage things would change. Apparently they got worse.

Brian came and sat at the head of the table.

“Looks good", he commented as he opened the serving dish to release the aroma of the mushrooms I had cooked into a nice gravy sauce.

I nodded in acknowledgement and smiled.

“Thank you,” I responded.
