The beginning
Lagos welcomed Zainab with a it’s usual hustle and bustle. The blaring horns from commercial vehicles and enraged drivers who were always in a hurry gave Zainab anxiety. She was not expecting this much activity after getting off the six hour fight from London.
Her fiancé, Tade was waiting for her as she walked towards him with the biggest smile on his face, she smiled back, she was excited to see him. They hadn’t seen each other in two weeks. He had gone back to Lagos to get ready for her arrival. He had told his family of his intention to get married and his family wanted to meet his bride. His mother initially had other plans for him, Yemi. A childhood friend, his mom and her mom were best friends and had hoped their children would get married someday to keep the friendship bond and turn them into in-laws. Alas, Tade had other plans, he liked Yemi, but not as relationship material. She was a little too stiff and rather shallow. Tade was looking for something and someone who was warm and original. He found that person in Zainab.
Zainab was both excited and nervous at the same time. On the plane she rehearsed the Yoruba words she learned from her friends in London. She wanted to make a good impression on his family. She was born and bred British with a ten percent Nigerian upbringing.
