Are you team pay for what I ordered or team split the bill evenly?
I received a message inviting me to Chichi’s birthday dinner. It was at a steakhouse in the city. I read the messages in the group chat and realized the decision to have the birthday dinner at the steakhouse was a unanimous choice made by the girls in. WhatsApp Group chat. My vote may not have held a lot of weight in the decision making process, but I felt a sense of obligation to show up for her.
Chichi was my coworker and a very good friend. She was supportive and showed up for me when I needed her most. I admit that celebrating a birthday at a steakhouse may not have been the most financially prudent choice considering my financial circumstance. However, if someone had planned something like that for me, she would show up without a doubt. With that mindset, I proceeded to craft a response in the chat making sure I responded positively to the invitation while being mindful of my own limitations.
Five girls decided to show up, while the other three girls in the group chat had other commitments. If I weren’t such a people pleaser, I should have just responded, telling them that I wouldn’t be able to make it.
