Remember back then when music videos on MTV told the best relationship stories through music. We were just entertained back then.
Imagine getting off work, and your boyfriend of two years tells you this in the car, with absolutely no remorse. It happens. It usually comes as a shock. In that moment, you pray the ground opens up and swallows you. So when something like this happens, how do you react? What is the way forward from this?
- Be Calm: Did I say calm? Yes. In that moment, it won’t be easy, the emotions will come flooding. However, the best way is to be calm. And most importantly, listen. Allow them to express themselves without interruption. It helps you understand their perspective, even when sometimes they are not making any sense.
- Find Clarity: After listening to what your partner has to say, you may want to ask questions like why? You want to make absolute sense of the situation, and at that moment it may be next to impossible when tempers are flying or emotions are all over the place. You may not get the clarity immediately, but if you can, please do. Sometimes not getting closure is painful, you don’t know what led to that…
