Candice took one last look at the home that held so many memories for her. Her marriage was a huge part of her memories in this home. There was so much love and happiness. The photos on the wall held so many painful memories of what was. It was like staring at an open wound that would not heal. It had been eight months since her husband Tobi left the marriage. Candice once believed her marriage was going to last forever. She would always remember that Saturday morning when everything changed. It was early in November, the weather was quite chilly. She decided to make some pepper soup while she boiled yams in the pot. She prided herself in making good food. Her plan was to spend the day in bed with Tobi watching movies on Netflix. She heard him go into the shower while she cooked. She was happy.
Fifteen minutes later, Tobi came out of the shower and came downstairs dressed in gray sweatpants and a white shirt.
“Hey hun, breakfast is almost ready,” Candice said with a smile.
“Oh yeah,” he replied with a grin.
“Sure, please help me set the table,” Candice told him. He did so without a word, as Candice poured the pepper soup into a serving dish and put the yams in a flat plate.
They both sat at the table and held hands to pray over their food.
