The one time I broke a boy’s heart.

He expected so much.

I never intended for any of it to happen but it sure did.

I was a few months shy of my sixteenth birthday.

We just had a major school event.

Sports day. The only day when we didn’t have to wear our school uniforms. The navy blue checkered blouses and royal blue skirts. Excited teenage girls in a single sex school. We folded the short sleeves of our T shirts. We got to do our hair how we wanted. Pink Hair Lotion was our best friend, it made our hair soft, silky and straight. We wore lip gloss and a touch of make up here and there so it wont be too conspicuous.

The boys from other schools were invited.

It was the day where we could shoot our shots. Shooting our shots meant we would finally find a bloke to date, to exchange letters with directly or through a classmate, to hang out with after school or give us chocolate and a card for Valentines Day. In order to be chosen we had to look our utmost best.

On this day, I wanted to have a good time and watch the sporting events. The March Past and Calisthenics were the fun parts.

That year, I met a boy.

I went to the same elementary school as he did. He was in my class too.
