THE OTHER WOMAN (2)

The dining room was dimly lit. It was the private dining room for just the family. It had not been used for a while, because the children were away at school and her husband was rarely home to eat dinner with Ruka. The table was set with beautiful chinaware and crystal glasses. The setting was fit for diplomats or important guests.

Ruka had invited her husband’s secretary to the house for dinner.

It was a rare invitation, and Hauwa, her husband’s secretary, did not know what was amiss. She accepted the invitation and promised to show up after work. At 8pm, Hauwa arrived at Ruka’s mansion and was ushered in by the ageless maid Grace, who had worked with the family since her first child Temi was born.

Hauwa was taken to the dining room and seated. Ruka joined her a few minutes later, wearing a gold head wrap and a black, long flowwy gown. They exchanged pleasantries, and Ruka took a seat at the head of the table, while Hauwa sat across from her. Hauwa felt uneasy, but she had to maintain a good composure in front of her boss’s wife.
