THE ROOM MATE (5)

Lola Os

--

Too scared to go home that night. I spent the night at my boyfriend Matt’s house. I kept him up all night with my disturbing discussion about my roommate. As much as I wanted to support her, I felt it was time for her to leave, but how would I do so without breaking the relationship? She will tell people I was mean to her. She had just left an abusive marriage and didn’t have anyone else to help her. I picked up the slack, and now I was paying for it with a lack of peace of mind.

Whoever said peace of mind was better than anything else knew what they were talking about.

“I wish I could stay elsewhere for a while and let her have the house with her sister, because the tension is so bad,” I told him as I lay next to him in bed in the dark room. The light from the moon filtered through the blinds into the room.

“You can’t and should not run away from your home. What if she decided to steal your stuff and walk away, what would you do?” He asked.

This was one reason why Matt was perfect for me. He thought about things that never crossed my mind on the moment’s spur.
