I got surprised instead.
It was our first date.
I was excited to take her out for the first time. We met on Bumble. We had been chatting for a few days before exchanging numbers. She was beautiful, twenty three years old and an aspiring medical student. She was a junior in college studying biology. She shared her dreams with me. She wanted to change the world. A product of a broken home, she saw beyond pain. She used her positives to balance her negatives. She was soft-spoken and well spoken too. It was hard to find a woman like that these days.
The last chic I went out with only talked about her hair and wanting to be an Instagram influencer. She talked about how many followers she had and how many more she wanted to build. She also told me how she was going to build the number of followers she wanted. It sounded like a cool idea, but I needed to know if there were more things in her head then she explained.
This new chic, Ellen was different. After many failed relationships, I was ready to make this work. I guess during those times I was not intentional about dating. I was young and immature. I had also hurt nice girls in the process. I wanted to be different and better.
We walked into the restaurant, and noticed the glow of the dimly lit chandeliers and the soft sounds of music playing in the background…
