Lara sat in her small shop located in a busy Lagos neighborhood. It was cluttered with fabric from ceiling to the floor. There was some fabric on the cutting table. Some had been cut and others were brand new orders that had not been accounted for. The plastic fan in the back corner of the shop whirled loudly which barely did anything. The Lagos heat was an oppression. She scrolled through her Tik tok feed and then switched to her Pinterest app which showed beautiful designs she had saved.

Her phone began to ring. She looked at the caller ID. It was Mrs Fashina. On the caller ID, Fash was what popped up. She was located in a busy Lagos neighborhood.. She loved being called Madam Fash, which could either mean her last name or the fact that she was the highest paid fabric vendor in Lagos. She was the main supplier of all designer shops. She was the plug and ran the biggest monopoly in town. No one dared rival her. She was quick to put one out of business. Several years ago, a UK returnee arrived in Lagos and decided to open a fabric shop in a high-brow area of Lagos. Madam Fash shut her down in three months by opening a big fabric shop on the same street. There was no room for competition. Madam Fash had an established business.
